During the two days, I got the chance to learn from passionate Makita trainers about the theory of how their innovative battery and tools systems work and also gained hands-on experience using the tools. I particularly enjoyed getting to use a range of tools, including combi drills, angle grinders, breakers, and routers, experiencing first-hand how powerful the tools were. Having never used a tool other than my dad’s (very old) electric screwdriver, I was slightly apprehensive and intimidated. Over the two days however, I grew more confident and really enjoyed it, excited by how smooth I could sand a strip of wood or cut a shape into a plank of pine.
I was particularly daunted by the prospect of using an angle grinder – slightly concerned I was going to go up in flames – however after learning about wearing appropriate PPE and receiving a thorough explanation from the trainer about the five checks we make on the disks before inserting them, I was convinced to give it a try. The angle grinder actually ended up being my favourite tool to use, the sparks making me feel almost like a professional.
This training not only deepened my understanding of Makita’s products but also strengthened my ability to effectively communicate through press releases and other pieces of copy the benefits of each product feature, what advantage it offers to users; and gain a deeper understanding of the unique functions of each tool. I learned about the evolution of battery powered tools and how monumental a fully battery-powered, universal system is to all areas of the construction industry.
